Crime Statistics - An update[Last Updated : 29 April 2010]
2010
No official crime statistics are available from the SAPS at this point in time.
2009
The Ministry of Police recently released the crime statistics in Parliament, 22 September 2009.
See BACSA's response to the release.
BACSA remains deeply concerned about the reported increases in the Trio crimes.
These increases require the mobilisation of business, now more than ever.
BACSA has been successfully mobilising the business community to assist in putting preventative measures in place to reduce vulnerability to crime. Information-sharing between business and the Government has been strengthened and the organisation is engaging with Government currently on how business resources, skills, expertise and knowledge can be leveraged to support requested interventions. A structured and re-invigorated partnership to support these aims is being finalised.
2008
Business against Crime South Africa regularly monitors the official release of crime statistics in South Africa. The organisation has regularly indicated that the crime statistics should be regularly released to the public as early as possible.
Currently, Government releases crime statistics twice yearly. The update below was issued by Business Against Crime South Africa mid - 2008. These statistics reflected the incidence of reported crimes for the 2007 – 2008 financial year. As Business Against Crime South Africa is not responsible for the release of these statistics, the organisation’s analysis is focused on the official statistics only. For additional statistics not covered here, refer to the official SAPS website. For an overview of the statistical information made available by the SAPS for the 2007/8 financial year.
As a service to the business community and the South African public this update helps to put these statistics in perspective. Given Government’s adoption of the Seven-point plan to improve the Criminal Justice System, Business Against Crime South Africa is now making the call for Government to release the crime statistics quarterly, as well as to include statistics related to the performance of the entire Criminal Justice System.

Year ended 31 March 2008
